Ornamental, intricate, full of amazing trompe l'oeil prints, jewelled details and striking colours, the first time I saw Mary Katrantzou's clothes in a magazine in 2009, my heart did a little dance. Ever since she's been one of those designers that never disappoint, always surprise and continually bring out visually stunning pieces.
Her fall/winter collection for 2011 has been my favourite so far. The models seem like beautiful walking vintage teacups, feminine but less delicate than bone china with a fierce edge shown in scatterings of leopard print and regal like armour.
This season she's also worked with Atelier Swarovski to create new jewellery creations, joining the likes of Christopher Kane, Zaha Hadid and Viktor & Rolf, amazing designers who've all previously worked with the brand. The jewellery perfectly mimics her luxury and maximalist aesthetic, becoming as striking as the Faberge eggs that seem to have inspired the clothes.
Today I completed my illustration of two of her Fall/Winter 2011 pieces, two beautiful lampshade dresses. I hope you like them!
